Helping Great Companies Get Better at Compliance

Course Overview

In human resources, AI can streamline recruitment, performance management, and paperwork; however, mishandling employee data can carry serious consequences. Under the EU AI Act and GDPR, organisations must ensure that HR teams use AI responsibly
and transparently.

This course focuses on protecting employee privacy while leveraging the benefits of AI. Through detailed case studies, you’ll learn what not to do. One scenario involves an HR officer uploading a complete employee file, containing names, addresses, salaries, and medical records, into an external AI tool to draft a contract; another describes using an AI assistant to summarise a sensitive harassment complaint; a third shows an HR manager generating termination letters by feeding personal details into an external platform. Each story exposes how sharing sensitive data without anonymisation, or proper agreements violates privacy and confidentiality obligations.

We then provide actionable guidelines for good practice: anonymise or pseudonymise personal data before inputting it into AI systems; clearly inform employees about what data will be used, why, how long it will be stored, and how decisions are made; conduct privacy impact assessments and legitimate interest tests before deploying AI for recruitment, monitoring or evaluations; review AI outputs for fairness and accuracy; and establish robust data processing agreements with external providers.

You’ll also understand how the AI Act’s risk categories intersect with GDPR principles such as lawfulness, fairness, and accountability in an HR context.

Completing this course will give you the confidence to integrate AI into HR processes
while safeguarding employee rights, maintaining trust, and meeting your organisation’s legal obligations.
