Why ISO 42001 training is mandatory — not optional
ISO/IEC 42001:2023 is the first international management system standard for artificial intelligence. Like ISO 27001 for information security, it requires documented competence, awareness, and training across staff who develop, deploy, or use AI systems. Clauses 7.2 (Competence) and 7.3 (Awareness) make training a certification audit checkpoint. Beyond the standard itself, ISO 42001 is widely expected to anchor harmonised standards giving presumption of conformity under EU AI Act Article 40 — meaning a 42001-certified AI management system carries forward into AI Act compliance evidence.
